I will be up in Lac Sainte-Marie for the first time, renting a cottage for one week next week with my wife and kids. I was looking forward in riding the trails, but with this message, should I be worried…???! I usualy ride with buddies so am usually not to concerned about riding in wilderness but next week, no buddies with me…Also, I ride in the laurentians north of Montreal near Val-David, bears are not really an issue there…Let me know if bears are really an issue at MSM!
Bears are really no more an issue at MSM than in the Laurentians. We haven’t had problems with encounters, but a family has been seen in the area.
Anytime you are out in the wilderness you should be aware of the possibility of encountering wildlife. Makes me think of the time I came face to face with a cougar in Gatineau park!
Bear bell on the seat post is a cheap way to let wildlife know you’re in the area. Wouldn’t be worried at MSM though.
